Marc Zegans, poet, spoken word artist and Narragansett Beer’s poet laureate is hosting and performing at the BCA’s first Spoken Word Speak Easy as part of the the Boston Center for the Arts CYC Specific Installation. The event will take place on 19th February at 10pm in the Salon of the famed Cyclorama, which will be dressed like a 1920s Speak Easy by production designer, Jenny DeBell. Performing alongside Zegans will be Poet Holly Anderson, Poet Rachel Boyadjis, Singer-Songwriter Peg Simone and story-teller Brendyn Schneider. As part of the event Peg and Holly will perform the Boston premier of Peg’s epic 20 minute version of When the Levee Breaks.
There will be a second Spoken Word Speak Easy on Wednesday the 23rd, same time, same place and again hosted by Marc Zegans who will also be performing. The line-up at the second Speak Easy includes singer-songwriter, Gabriel Miller-Phillips, Poet Jessica Bozek, Poet Mary Walker Graham, Writer Sandra Miller and others.
Marc Zegans, has recorded two spoken word albums, Night Work (Philistine Records) and Marker and Parker (Tiny Mind Records) and is the author of the book Pillow Talk. A seasoned live performer Zegans has appeared at many venues including the American Poetry Museum, the Bowery Poetry Club, Johnny D’ Uptown Club, the Lily Pad and The Actors’ Shakespeare Project’s Shakespeare Slam.
Zegans says: “The Speak Easy events will present a varied group of highly talented performers who will provoke, excite, delight and entertain their audience in an intimate and unique setting, and being Narragansett’s Poet Laureate the beer will be flowing too”.
